Treasure Hunting

If you are traveling from home, you will need to know where to search for
your treasure in the area you are visiting. You will also need to know how much your
trip will cost in total, including your hotel stay, food and airfare. If you are hunting for
treasure on land or in water that is not your own (or publicly owned), you may need the
permission of the property owner to hunt for treasure there.
Once you have a good idea of where you are going and what you’re searching
for, it’s time to get started! First you will need to do a bit of research. If you are looking
for something specific, learn about how to uncover and care for the treasure, should you
happen to find it. Research different types of treasure hunting equipment and decide
which pieces will best suit your needs. Devise a ‘plan of attack’; this will help you stay
on course and avoid becoming discouraged if your hunt isn’t immediately successful.
Pay attention to safety issues as well. As you are getting ready, consider the
area you will be visiting and whether there may be any hazards. For example, if you
are searching for treasure on a beach, you’re likely safe wearing sandals and shorts.
But if you will be walking through a densely wooded area, hiking boots and long pants
are more appropriate. There may even be areas that would require safety shoes or
glasses. It is important to take these precautions so you don’t end up getting hurt in
your quest!
Prepare yourself mentally for your treasure hunt. Whether you are just out
playing around with your metal detector, or on a serious quest for a rumored valuable
treasure; you should be prepare yourself for the possibility that you may not find what
you are looking for.
Is there really such thing as an unsuccessful treasure hunt? If you enjoy it
as a hobby, then every trip should be a success. Even when you come home empty
handed, you’ve spent the day doing an activity that you enjoy. Remind yourself of this
often before you go. If you dread the prospect of spending all day searching for
nothing, then this might not be the best hobby for you!
You should also be prepared in case you do find your treasure. Depending on
the item you have been searching for, it may require special handling or care. You
need to have the proper equipment to recover and transport the treasure without
damaging it.

Have you ever played “treasure hunting” when you were a kid? Maybe you’d recall the times when you and your childhood friends hid one another’s toys in the garden and had lots of fun racing to unravel the items?
Many think that treasure hunting is only meant for kids. But the reality is that metal detecting, a form of
“treasure hunting” in its own right, is an activity enjoyed by thousands of adults around the world. The metal which people are after may either be discarded pieces of aluminium, valuable coins, or other buried treasures, which could easily be found if detected by a metal detector.
Many have taken up metal detecting as a hobby. The more common types of this hobby are:
Coin Shooting: Find valuable coins that have been left behind hundreds of years ago! Coin shooting can be a satisfying and lucrative leisure pursuit. Identifying the places to coin shoot is not difficult – think of the places in your area where people are likely to lose a coin or two. Try backyards, parks, playgrounds and the seaside or better still, go onto the Internet to research on the older sites.
Gold Prospecting: Treasure hunters in this group research and attempt to find caches of gold, silver or any valuables rumoured to be hidden at some place. Hundreds of Metal Detectionist clubs have been founded all over the world for this hobby. Gold prospecting with a club would mean more resources on the activity and tapping on the experiences of the experts. Many clubs also organise regular treasure huts and outings for metal-detector enthusiasts.
Relic Hunting: This is for those who are intrigued with historically significant artefacts, like weapons used
during the US Civil War. Usually, the relic hunter is concerned with the historical value of an object rather
than the monetary value. Potential spots to start with are old fort sites, stockades camps and other similar areas.
Beach Hunting: There is more treasure out on the beach than you could ever imagine. You don’t have to venture far. One of the world’s best beach metal detecting locations is found right here in the United States because our beaches are dotted by ancient shipwrecks.
Metal hunting is an activity that can provide hours of entertainment. Plus, if you are lucky or simply just
hardworking enough, it could turn into a lucrative pastime! It’s time to pick up the metal detector and get out there!
Getting started on metal detecting can be fun and lucrative, read more about how to detect what you’re looking for.

Treasure Hunting For Gold
30/11/08
By David Cowley
Treasure hunting is the common name for a fun and interesting hobby enjoyed by thousands of people around the world. They use portable metal detectors to go outside and literally hunt for treasure. With the price of gold over $700 oz today, more and more people are getting metal detectors and heading into the hills.
The FMDAC
In order to help you get started in treasure hunting, you should check out the Federation of Metal Detector and Archaeological Clubs, Inc. You can find out about any events, meeting or treasure hunting clubs in your area. You can find out where to legally go look for gold and other artifacts. Usually, you have to go to state parks and public property unless you are invited onto someone’s private property. And it’s not just a pipe dream to find gold hunting in this way. People have actually found very valuable items, from gold coins to gold artifacts.
You also need to know your area’s municipal codes, which the FMDAC can help you find. Sometimes, you can legally go hunting in public schools, church grounds and public beaches with metal detectors. You might even be asked by neighbors to help locate utility pipelines on their property or to find lost trinkets in their back yards.
Wal-Mart
Believe it or not, Wal-Mart is now playing a big role in promoting finding gold by treasure hunting. Usually, stores will not allow any solicitation in their premises. However, Wal-Mart has a unique partnership with the FMDAC where they will allow displays by treasure hunting clubs in their stores. These can be manned or unmanned display tables with pamphlets. Your local Wal-Mart or Super Wal-Mart may be the place to go get started in artifact hunting business.
Is There Any Gold Left?
The best place to prospect for gold is the place where gold already has been found. Some nice size nuggets have been found with metal detectors in areas that have had active gold mines in the past. Not every ounce of gold has been mined or panned from rivers. Part of the gold hunting hobby is to learn gold panning and pour over old prospector maps. There still is a market in this hobby for treasure maps. Some treasure maps will show you where gold has been found in the past. The odds are that not all of the gold was found and that there might still be some left in those gold-bearing areas.
The Roaring Camp Mining Company is in Pine Grove California, which is about one hour east of Sacramento. Visitors to the mining camp are shown many of the mining techniques us for locating gold. You are able to pan, sluice, dredge and dry wash for gold. You get to keep any gold that you find. Gold bearing material is collected from the mine bedrock area and run through a screening process to remove the large rocks and it is then made available to you.
California isn’t the only state where there has been success in gold hunting by amateurs. Gold has been found in North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama and Virginia. The gold was found with the use of portable metal detectors or gold-panning. So, there still might be gold left “in them thar hills”.
Happy Treasure Hunting.

Hunting for Treasure
30/11/08
Treasure hunting is a fun activity that nearly anyone can do. I explain where to look for gold and/or treasure and what to do after you find treasure.
First of all, we need to know what to look for. If you are hunting gold, you should do some research on the area you plan to go. You would want to know if there have been gold findings near by and the geology, just to name a few things.
Beach hunting does not require as much research to get started and almost any public beach is open to metal detecting.
Cleaning your gold can raise it’s value. If you plan on selling them, remember that a gold nugget is worth more than normal spot price because of the rarity. Some forms of precious metals are generally worth more than others and any larger gold nugget can be worth around two to four times spot price. In other words, at 700 dollars an ounce, a one ounce gold nugget could be worth between 1,400-2,800 dollars.
Now, back to treasure hunting. If you plan on going beach hunting, you should generally do so after a winter storm.
There are a few reasons for this, one being that in the winter there are usually less people at the beach. After a storm more sand has been removed exposing opportunity to find something buried farther down.
Treasure hunting can be done with little preparation unless you are planning to make a significant find. To do that, you will need to spend some time in the library looking up information that will give you hints as to the existance of lost treasure and it’s last known location. There may have been prior attempts at locating it as well. Usually this is not public information, so it may require some additional legwork to talk to locals and historians.
Keep good records and check the laws in the region being investigated. You may have to seek special permits for the area being searched. Using your records you will need to assemble a set of information and maps that provide clues as to where to search and what type of equipment to use. This part of puzzle creation and solving is often one of the most compelling reasons for treasure hunting.
When work is finished don’t forget to clean up what you find, but be careful. If you clean a 1782 silver coin that is a relic worth 2 million dollars, it could damage it and devalue the coin, leaving it worth little or nothing. If you are not sure the value of some artifact, don’t risk losing it’s value just to make it look nice!
Above all, enjoy Hunting4Treasure!

Can you be arrested using a metal detector? The short of it is yes. On the federal level, in all federal parks, all US Parks, and historical sites and monuments there is no treasure hunting allowed. You could be arrested for just having a metal detector in your car in a national park. About two-thirds of the states has some type of restrictive park rules for the state parks.
In some parks, they will allow you to search but you have to pay $$ and you get a permit. In other state parks, for instance the historical State Park, they just say “no.” It varies tremendously. About two-thirds of the states have some sort of regulation varying from “absolutely no” to “yes, you can metal detect hunt at this time.
In general it is best to ask if you’re going into a state park, ask if treasure hunting is allowed. Most cities in the US have no restrictions on treasure hunting other than restrictions on vandalism; don’t destroy property.
There are a lot of cities and counties want you to purchase a permit. It’s not very expensive. They tell me it is primarily to know who is out there digging holes in the parks. Where I am located, the city lets you metal detect parks without charge, but you need a permit. No hunting at city buildings or historical sites. The county says, No to metal detecting in county parks. If you treasure hunt on private land, make sure you get the owners permission.

Treasure Hunting For Lost Buried Or Sunken Treasures Now Made Easy For Dowsers
By Jerry Nokes
Due to an amazing discovery in the Science of Dowsing, Treasure Hunting for Lost, Buried, or Sunken Treasures can now be reliable, profitable, and almost effortless. No longer will Treasure Hunters who are armed with basic dowsing skills have to suffer the same frustrations and disappointments that conventional treasure hunters have to endure!
If a treasure hunter has a treasure story that contains good information, they can now approach Treasure Hunting with a certainty of locating the treasure they are seeking.
Because of a new and proven map dowsing technology, a dowser can now pinpoint the location of a treasure they want to search for before they leave the comfort of their home. With the advent of Google Maps and its GPS attributes, without the drudgery of having to waste time and effort searching irrelevant terrain, they can go directly to the spot where the treasure can be found.
The same method is just as useful when searching for sunken treasure. Locating lost “Gold Laden Spanish Treasure Galleons” is now possible without the guesswork and uncertainties normally associated with this type of search. Many historical records contain all the information necessary to apply the new technology with the same degree of accuracy and success.
By using a particular type of gold detector, it is now possible to verify a find from a distance of several hundred feet if the cache consists of a good quantity of gold. Digging to verify a find is no longer necessary. The modern treasure hunter can now identify and confirm a find inconspicuously without the need of using a bulky, highly conspicuous metal detector, thereby allowing the opportunity for a well-planed, unseen recovery.
Because of the new technology, treasure-hunting dowsers now have a tremendous advantage over conventional treasure hunters. Non-dowsers will not be able to take advantage of the technology. While others are spending their time searching, the dowser who is armed with this technology will be spending his time enjoying the gratification of precisely locating and recovering the treasure he is seeking.
The best part of all, only basic dowsing skills are required to master the technology! Any dowser who can use a pendulum can now become a successful treasure hunter and be richly rewarded for his or her dowsing abilities!
“ABOUT THE AUTHOR”: Jerry Nokes with over thirty years of dowsing experience has pioneered his scientific discovery into a full proof method of locating lost, buried, and sunken treasures. The success he has enjoyed in his own treasure hunting endeavors has proven beyond any shadow of a doubt that the new technology is not only viable, but also 100% reliable.
His website, http://map-dowsing-is-obsolete.com offers all dowsers the opportunity to learn the new technology, and greatly expand their newly acquired abilities into unlimited fields of potential interests.
